What's
Welcome to LOICZ South Asia Node
LOICZ is a joint core project of the International Geosphere-Biosphere
Programme (IGBP) and the International Human Dimensions
Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP).
LOICZ aims to provide
science that contributes towards understanding the
Earth system in order to inform, educate and contribute
to the sustainability of the world’s coastal zone.
Therefore LOICZ seeks to inform the scientific community,
policymakers, managers and stakeholders on the relevance
of global environmental change in the coastal zone.
The aim of the LOICZ
Regional Nodes is to coordinate and promote global change
research at the regional and local level as well as to
facilitate links and exchanges between international,
national and local science and policy.
In
August 2009, the South Asia Node of LOICZ was officially
initiated in India, with Anna University Chennai as its
hub. The focus of the South Asia node is to bring together
a large network of individuals and institutions involved
in coastal research under the umbrella of LOICZ in India
and other Asian countries.
MANDATE
The mandate of a LOICZ Regional Node is to facilitate
a “Synthesis of patterns of change and trajectories
in the region’s coast and implications to policy and
management”. A LOICZ Regional Node should develop a
Regional Implementation Strategy based on the scientific
framework provided by the LOICZ Science Plan and the
mid-term Priority Topics.
