Networking
International Networking is being carried out through
a) joint projects
  1. Global Partnership on Nutrient Management of the UNEP-GPA (network of institutions around the world)
  2. APN project on Seagrass, mangrove ecosystem: bioshields, biodiversity loss and impacts of local and global change along Indo-Pacific Coast (SMBP) along with Philippines, Indonesia, Australia and Japan Global Mercury Observation System (GMOS) – funded by
  3. the European Commission (EC-FP7), Brussels, along with 14 other nations Building Capacity for Sustainable Governance in South
  4. Asian Fisheries: Poverty, Wellbeing and Deliberative Policy Networks – funded by the NERC/ESRC, UK Enhancing the use of Science in International Waters
  5. projects to improve project results - funded by the UNU- INWEH (United Nations University, Canada) Building Sustainable Governance project funded by ESRC,
  6. UK along with the University of Ulster, Institute of Development Studies, University of Ruhana and University of Amsterdam
b) capacity building/ training programmes
  1. Have undertaken several Integrated Coastal Zone Management programs for coastal managers of Bangaldesh, Sri Lanka and Maldives since 1999
  2. Coastal fishery resources: Data collection and harmonization for the officers from SAARC Nations (India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Maldives and Sri Lanka)
  3. Indo-Dutch training course for 20 Dutch and 20 Indian graduate students on integrated coastal zone management with special reference to social sciences (every year since 2005)
  4. Indo-US Summer training for senior undergrad studentsfrom various US Universities on coastal pollution mapping and coastal environmental sciences
  5. Indo-flux workshop and networking for the establishmentof INDO-FLUX Network in line with Ameriflux for CO2 and other GHG measurements at various sites in India
c) institution building
  1. Responsible for creating a consortium of 11 coastal institutions in India to conduct research on multiple aspects of coastal management under the broad umbrella of the National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM) of which I am the first founder-Director.
  2. Presently involved in networking institutions and organizations in the South Asia region through the SA LOICZ Node
